Impromptu Speeches
Random Impromptu Speeches
A selection of subjects are written on pieces of paper and placed in a hat (carrier bag).
Each member picks out a subject and speaks on that for the allotted time
(generally 1 or 2 minutes but anything to suit available time).
Allow no more than 15-20 seconds from picking out the subject to starting the speech.
This means the speaker has to think on their feet very quickly to
gather their thoughts and structure the speech.
When one speaker has finished, the next picks out their subject.
Themed Impromptu Speeches
Similar to random method but the Chair gives a theme for
all speakers to use.
This could be something general such as holidays,
something in the news or a contentious issue.
Care should be taken when choosing the theme
as everyone could end up saying the same thing.
